Now that I've renewed my lease with an end-date to move out in sight, it seems like it might be time for an apartment update.  I took these photos back in October, when everything was clean and organized and beautiful for my parents to come stay for my birthday.  Obviously things have changed a bit in, oh, nine months, so my living room area in particular looks quite a bit different, but this is representative of a good halfway point in terms of getting my little home together.

The majority of my large furniture items were purchased at Ashley Furniture here in Mobile, as my mother decided she didn't want to have to deal with the hassle of moving things down from home.

First installment here, if you're curious

  • corner lamp, bulletin board/white board set, and black shelf from Target
  • desk was a Craigslist find
  • cheap little black chair from Walmart
  • Threshold mirror, leaning up against the wall

I made the EAT sign using these letters from Joann + a combination of metallic silver and black paints [tutorial here].  Most of the kitchen stuff is leftover from my years in the dorm [and probably in need of some upgrades, if I'm being honest], although my mother did buy me a shiny new rice cooker before moving because my previous one ran off with someone else.

[yes, my cabinet doors are usually just hanging open.  I don't know why I can't be bothered to close things]

The tassel garland was made using a tutorial like this and is hung up with pushpins - I got lazy.  I also put up a couple of large Command hooks near my dresser to hold my bulkier necklaces; I love how pretty it all looks.

Craziness.

I have various and sundry Command hooks up to hold purses as well as belts.  I bought the double decker shelf thing at Target wayyyy back in college to expand the size of my tiny dorm closet, and I'm still putting it to good use.  I prefer to hang up most of my clothes, but sweaters and cardigans and scrubs and leggings are all folded and stashed on the shelves here, while T-shirts and workout clothes and socks and undies and pajamas all go in the dresser.  I've also got my knitting supplies stashed on the top shelf of my closet, as well as my extra set of sheets.

Shoe closet :)

I made the executive decision upon viewing this apartment for the first time that this tiny closet would serve to store only my shoes.  It's way too shallow to accommodate much of anything else, unfortunately, or else I'd probably have made an effort to turn it into a linen closet or something more practical.

What all is there to say about a bathroom [...other than I wish I had closed the toilet lid]?  Most of this stuff is OLD OLD OLD - collected over four years of living in a dorm and reused and reused.  I did buy a new shower curtain and some new bath mats for this space, but everything else has been moving around with me for a few years at this point.  Makeup things are housed in a couple of glittery mason jars that I painted a couple years ago - tutorial here.  My washer and dryer are stashed behind that folding metal door, along with my cleaning supplies and extra towels and so on.

And boom, there we have it.  Of course, I'm now due for an updated one of these posts seeing as things have changed quite a bit since Halloween.  Someone remind me to take photos the next time I get all of my clutter put away!
