random thoughts on a wednesday

  • THANK GOD FOR HAVING TWO BANK ACCOUNTS.  I discovered this morning while stopping to fill my car up with gas on the way to clinic that I had failed to return my card to my wallet after I last used it over the weekend.  Meaning I would have been stuck out in Chatom without enough gas to get home.  Meaning bad things.  Luckily, however, I realized that I had my debit card for my other, less-used bank with me, so I was able to log in to my account online and move money around and fill up with gas so that I would actually be able to come home today.
    • Boyfriend later reminded me that I keep emergency money in my car for exactly this kind of reason...which I had completely forgotten about.
  • Simone Biles is kind of sucking the fun out of watching Olympic gymnastics for me.  I mean yes, she's amazing, but the NBC commentators don't need to go around acting like it's absolutely a done deal that she'll win everything.  I feel like it's disrespectful to the rest of the US team that they're being so thoroughly ignored by everyone in favor of doting on Simone Biles.
  • Speaking of the Olympics, how many athletes do you think find the outfits they have to wear for their particular sport to be ridiculous?  There's so much skin being shown - especially on the ladies - that doesn't seem exactly necessary for optimal performance.
  • I found this little guide thing on cleaning hairbrushes and oh my goodness it is life-changing.  I don't have a fancy boar bristle brush by any means [mine is this Sonia Kashuk one from Target], but I have been meaning to look up if there's any particular great method for cleaning it because my brush has been increasingly accumulating what looks like dust lately.  Turns out that dust is actually sebum - I learned something new [and mildly disgusting].  So anyway, I tried out this girl's method of cleaning my brushes last night...and it worked!  And then I promptly cleaned all the rest of my various and sundry hair taming apparatuses this morning while I should have been getting ready for work, because I was so excited about it.
  • People really need to chill out on the excessive and aggressive speeding front.  Like, I don't care that we're driving on a fairly not-busy highway in the country - that doesn't mean you need to be going 20+ mph over the speed limit.  Just no.
  • It's been really foggy in the mornings as I'm driving out to clinic, and it is absolutely beautiful.  It gets me really excited that fall will be here soon, as fall is my favorite time of year, but then I remember that we really don't have a fall here and everything is all sad trombone.
  • WHY ON EARTH ARE THEY REMAKING BEN-HUR?  Like, seriously - which ridiculous individual is sitting around thinking 'You know what could be better?  This beloved, highly influential classic film that won a record-breaking number of awards.'  The entertainment industry drives me nuts sometimes.  How about instead of remaking movies that won't necessarily benefit from excessive CGI, we instead focus on producing new ideas from talented and underappreciated screenwriters with original thoughts?
  • Boyfriend says hi.  He's mock upset that he hasn't received a lot of mentions around here recently, but then I remind him that that happens on purpose and he stops pretending to pout at me.  "I guess I don't want to be doxed...why is it called doxing anyway?" <-- literally the conversation we just had.
