How topical, right? We're currently getting slammed by some obnoxious winter-slash-spring weather [hellooooo thunderstorms + tornado watches!] and I'm over here finally blogging about a very traditionally autumnal thing - APPLE ORCHARDS.
Although this post is actually full of pumpkins. Go figure.

North Alabama is home to quite a few orchards, and making the rounds among them has been on my to-do list for quite a while. When I popped home for Kate's baby shower wayyyyy back in October, I finally had the opportunity to visit one! We live not too far down the highway from Isom's Orchard, so it was an easy drive to make on a sleepy Saturday morning. It doesn't seem like any of the orchards in the area actually let you into the orchard part, unfortunately, but they still offer a lot in the way of apples and cider and farm fresh produce to browse. Isom's, for example, is set up like a little hut in front of rows and rows of fruit trees. There are tables loaded down with seasonal fruits and veggies for sale, and in the fall you can buy steaming cups of cider or frosty apple cider slushies - because fall in Alabama is an extension of summer, after all. Since this was October, there was also a little "field" of pumpkins plopped off to the side of the main building. It was like pumpkin heaven for this October baby! So many different colors and shapes and sizes and varieties, oh my goodness. I had the hardest time not leaving with ten.

Boyfriend tagged along for the trip home as well, since we were both in between classes/rotations that weekend and were planning to take some sort of mini trip prior to that baby shower being planned. He's basically a born-and-raised South Alabama boy, so I was excited for the opportunity to show off a bit of northern half of the state that I've come to know well over the past ten years. The weather ended up being sad and rainy and miserable that weekend so quite a few of my plans fell through, but I'm still pleased we managed to drive out to Isom's in the morning before the weather got too gross.
And of course, we came home with a bag of Candy Crisp apples and a couple of beautiful pumpkins, so that worked out spectacularly as well.
