a fairhope fourth of july

OMG it has taken me literally all week to make even the tiniest amount of progress on this post.  I have plenty of things to blog about at the moment, but a pretty variable schedule and a lot of overall tiredness has made for an unproductive few days.  Working the morning shift from 6am-2pm last week definitely felt like it ate up less of my day compared to the 2-10pm shift I've been on for the past few days.

Anyway.  Med student is busy.  News at 11.

Independence Day happened this week!  In case you didn't notice.  Boyfriend and I celebrated the holiday by chowing down on burgers and watching fireworks over in Fairhope, just like last year [we've officially entered our second round of holidays together, and that's a little bit crazy to think about].  His parents recently acquired a new bulldog puppy [I say 'acquired' because there's a long-ish ridiculous story involved there...]; her name is Penny, and she is an adorable little chunk.  She likes to chew on everything and pass out for a noisy snooze under random chairs.

It is my very firm personal opinion that you can't celebrate a holiday like the Fourth of July without grilling something.  Especially a messy cheeseburger.  Side options are interchangeable, but summer fruit salad and baked beans are always appreciated around here. ;)

Colby's dad is the master of piña coladas and looking at this picture right now has me craving another one.  Never mind that it's 1:30 pm and I haven't eaten much of anything yet today....

I'm such a huge fan of fireworks - side effect of growing up as a baseball fan, maybe?  I don't know.  I love watching fireworks shows, and especially as I've gotten bigger into photography, I love the "creative challenge", if you will, of photographing everything.  I didn't go quite as crazy with the picture taking this year compared to last year, but I was still set up on the beach with my tripod and my camera in bulb mode ready to go.  The fact that the fireworks here are set off over the bay adds such a lovely other dimension to pictures; the colorful reflections on the water are so pretty.

Someone remind me to bring my own glowsticks next year, mmkay?

And now for a bunch of pictures of fireworks, because would you really expect otherwise from me?
